100% clean heating in the Oberland. The Kluge family from Eberfing receives the first award from Energiewende Oberland.

The “Clean Heating” award, designed by Energiewende Oberland (EWO) together with the region’s climate protection managers, has been available since autumn 2022. The first household receiving the smart wooden plate from the EWO is the Kluge family from Eberfing, who heats with a combination of heat pump and solar power. The award was developed as part of the EU-funded REPLACE heating exchange project and is intended to honour people who heat climate friendly and to encourage others to follow suit.

REPLACE Newsletter #3

Climate change makes it necessary to switch from fossil to renewable heating and cooling systems. After all, we use half of the energy in Europe for heating and cooling. Two thirds of the installed heating systems are inefficient. At the same time, the motivation to switch systems is intensified by the current political situation, the dependence on oil, gas and coal from Russia and the rising energy prices.

The REPLACE project is more relevant than ever and supports the transition to heating and cooling with renewable energies.

In nine regions in Europe we have implemented replacement actions. The REPLACE newsletter presents highlights from the project regions. And it informs on REPLACE tools developed to make the switch to climate friendly systems feasible.

REPLACE Highlight Austria – Web-based one-stop-shop for fuel oil & gas boiler replacements launched mid-July 2022

After over a year of stakeholder consultation and implementation work, a web-based one-stop-shop for residential boiler replacements was developed for the first time in Austria – from oil/gas/direct electricity heating systems towards renewable-based and district heating systems.

REPLACE highlight Bosnia and Herzegovina: Bringing innovations in times of the global energy crisis – REPLACE pre-feasibility studies help to overcome obstacles to climate friendly heating

Replacing a heating system is a complex process. It requires many factors to be taken into account so that the replacement results in the best and most efficient solution. REPLACE activities and tools offer an innovative approach to the replacement process that is easy to understand and accessible not only to professionals but also to end users.

The development of pre-feasibility studies for the replacement of the heating system is one of the innovative activities that was presented and made available to the end users in Sarajevo Canton (the target region in BiH) for the first time – completely free of charge. The studies show heating systems recommended for a specific household as well as benefits of the replacement.

REPLACE Highlight Bulgaria – From old coal boilers to efficient heating technologies: two practice examples of how the REPLACE your Heating System Calculator helps households in Bulgaria plan a new heating system

In the Rhodope region in Bulgaria, the REPLACE your Heating System Calculator provides valuable support to households to choose the best heating technology for their home. Together with the following two households, REPLACE project partner BSERC has found out about technologies that fit to the buildings, about operating costs, pay back times and savings in money and CO2.

REPLACE Highlight Croatia: Renewable heating and cooling in a tourist environment – Open house event in Croatia

The island of Mali Losinj in the Adriatic Sea is a popular Croatian holiday destination. Since in summer the rooms are not only cooled for the island population, but also for tourist guests, the energy demand is quite high. To show how the demand can be met by renewable energy systems, REPLACE partner Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) organised an open house day on the island on 12th April 2022.

REPLACE highlight Croatia: Informing specialists on climate friendly heating and cooling – REPLACE at largest fair in the Zagorje region

Even professionals can use support when it comes to climate-friendly heating and cooling. And who better to provide this support than REPLACE project partner REGEA at the thirteenth Chamber of Commerce fair in Krapina-Zagorje County, the largest gathering of businessmen, craftsmen, family agricultural farms and many others in the Zagorje region.

REPLACE Highlight Germany: Field trips to private and municipal heating networks – for imitators and future customers

Heating networks powered by renewable energies can be a good lever for climate protection: In addition to replacing individual heating systems, they supply entire streets with climate-friendly heat. At the same time, they offer the possibility of becoming independent of fluctuating energy prices and oil and gas supplies from abroad, as well as saving money. But how are heating networks planned, built and operated?
