At the beginning of June, Enova team had the opportunity to participate in two workshops held on June 9 in Zenica and June 10 in Travnik, entitled “Opportunities for the development of the concept of smart grids in the energy sector of the Region – Zenica-Doboj and Central Bosnia Canton.”
The main goal of the workshop was to provide guidelines for stakeholders on the efficient and sustainable development of the power system in terms of decentralization, digitalization, decarbonization, and democratization by introducing the concept of a “smart grid” by strengthening the capacity of key energy sector actors to implement smart energy management with the aim of achieving environmental, economic, and social benefits.
The event aimed to involve and connect all actors that have a direct or indirect impact on energy planning, such as: policy makers, industry and academia (triple helix), consumers and other actors, to lay the foundations for the introduction of the concept of smart grids while ensuring energy independence and security.
Workshop participants had the opportunity to acquire new knowledge about smart grids from a technical and legislative aspect by the greatest experts in the field.
During the workshop, Enova representatives spoke on the topic “Sustainable heat supply for” smarter “cities, within which the Replace project was presented – goals, tools, materials, activities and results achieved so far. Participants agreed that the concept of “smart grids” does not pay significant attention to the heating sector which also plays an important role. In the context of smart grids, energy transition, sustainable energy supply, renewable energy sources, etc., heat supply must be recognized as one of the most important factors. It was recognized that the efforts made through Replace activities can contribute to a more significant recognition of this sector in the field of energy not only in the Sarajevo Canton, but throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
